Kick a COLD!

Do you feel like you’re getting sick?
Can you just tell that you’re doomed and destined for a runny nose, sore throat, and coughing?
Do you also hate popping pills (vitamins people!)?

THEN THIS IS FOR YOU! ^_^

Follow these steps to try and avert the crisis, because no one likes to get sick.

FIRST:
Drink as much water as you possibly can! Eight cups a day are recommended, but more never hurt anyone.

SECOND:
Drink lots of green tea, or any kind of tea with lots of antioxidants.
There are even teas formulated with the intent of keeping you healthy.
These teas aren’t magic though, you’d be best off to always drink at least two cups of tea a day.
Green tea is often considered the best.
I love Yogi Green Tea Pomegranate.
The pomegranate adds an extra punch of antioxidants!
Which also can do amazing things for your skin and possibly add years to your life.
(if taken consistently over your entire life)
But don’t drink caffeinated tea after three o’clock if you want to get to bed at a normal hour!

Tea can also help you get to sleep if you get a kind with chamomile in it.
Sleepy Time has been a long time favorite of mine, as well has Honey Vanilla Chamomile.

If you don’t like caffeine at all or tend to react to it, try steeping your tea in cold water, less of the caffeine will seep out of the leaves.

THIRD:
Get lots and lots of vitamin C!
Whether it’s in pill vitamin form or orange juice or whatever pleases you,
Vitamin  C is a natural immunity booster and orange juice is tasty.

However if you already have the start of a sore throat I would NOT recommend having orange juice as it is very acidic and will just irritate your throat even more.

FOURTH:
Sleep!!!
Sleep maybe the best medicine for most things.
(but not too much—there is such thing as too much sleep)
Inadequate amounts of sleep can cause weight gain, as well.
Also, it can cause those nasty bags under your eyes!! Boo! =[
Sleep is essential for your body, you must get sleep for your body to recovery and heal.
Also, enough sleep helps with stress level and almost all illness starts with stress.

FIFTH:
Don’t eat like a fast food fiend.
I am not a fast food eater, but if you are, I would stop if you feel like you’re getting sick!
More than just being plain unhealthy for your body, fast food doesn’t contain many of the essential nutrients your body needs, while still packing in an ungodly amount of useless calories.
Fast food is also greasy and filled with bad things that can make you feel worse as well as energy deprived, bloated, gassy, heavy, just all around sick!
(Have you ever watched supersize me?)

SIXTH:
Eat healthy foods!
Eat as many green leafy veggies as possible.
Foods like spinach, carrots, and sweet potatoes are high in Vitamin A which can help fight viral infections.
Obviously you won’t know if you have a viral infection yet, but early action never hurt when fighting sickness.
Eat protein with every meal and often with snacks.
Don’t skip meals! Your body needs nutrients to survive and even more so if it has to fight of nasty germ ninjas.

SEVENTH:
What did your mom, preschool teacher, uncle, coach, whoever always tell you?
WASH YOUR HANDS!
Wash your hands as much as possible!
Don’t touch your face with you hands unless they’re clean.

Eighth:
Just as a common courtesy to others that many people seem to have forgotten, cover your damn cough.
Don’t cough straight into the air for it to fly around and contaminate everyone around you.
You are the most contagious before you show sever signs of sickness.
So don’t share drinks, make out with everyone and their brother, or lick the doorknobs or anything crazy like that. >.<

NINTH:
Now this is the one tip that people probably won’t want to follow the most! I didn’t want to follow this advice when it was first given to me, or actually the second and third time it was given to me as well.
I did not decide to try this until my boyfriend walked me through it.

Use a sinus rinse!
Yes, I know the idea of shooting liquid up your nose and letting it fall out of the other side is completely repulsive.
I was disgusted by the thought and worried that it would give the water up your nose feeling.
This did not happen the first time I did it, although it can happen if you do not do it right.
Perhaps I will post an instructional video on how to use a sinus rinse properly.
Anywho sinuses rinses are extremely helpful as they flush the phlegm from your nose.
They can also help you breathe as your nose will no longer be stuffed afterwards! (HOPEFULLY)
If you use a sinus rinse immediately when you start feeling sick you can pretty much avert the sickness.
My boyfriend got really sick again after we had both just gotten over a cold and knock on wood, following these habits especially the sinus rinse have left my sickness to a semi-stuffy nose in the morning and a runny nose outside, but that is to be expected.
Colorado just got its first snow! And yes it is still October.

TENTH:
My final tip to averting sickness is something that I am not even sure of its effectiveness.
My boyfriend’s step dad saw this product at I am assuming Whole Foods and thought it would be of use to him.
While my boyfriend has yet to use it I have, although it is not pleasant at all.
It is called Kick Ass Immune.
Here is what it looks like:
Description: Macintosh HD:Users:AmyRae:Downloads:476384452_2a5f457d65.jpg

Online at Vitamin Cottage it says it sells for $4.49 although I can’t remember how many ounces it was.

I also found this Blog Post about it.

Anyways this stuff is DISGUSTING!!!! I am not joking and I am not exaggerating.
It tastes awful! But at what point does suffering through a drawn out cold become more appealing than putting some foul-tasting drops under you tongue?
I sucked it up and took it.
It is gross and I will make your tongue feel really weird, but washing it down with water and orange juice eliminates the weird taste very quickly.

Honestly in my opinion natural solutions like vitamins are often very helpful and good for your body. I am not saying I don’t take ibuprofen or antibiotics when subscribed—I am just saying in my experience natural remedies, such as constant ice to relive swelling and inflammation, or natural rubs made with herbs to alleviate joint pain are fairly effective. Whether it’s fact or just belief it helps. I recommend trying some out. They won’t hurt. (as far as I know)

I hope this helped! And remember ALWAYS wash your hand!
Until next time, lovelies.
xox,

Arae

Quick and Easy Dinner

Yesterday I made my first real meal for my boyfriend and I. I have cooked for us before, but never an entire meal with more than two things. I made a vegetable medley in a garlic-olive oil sauce, steamed carrots, penne pasta with chicken, sweet potatoes and garlic bread. It was also SUPER easy. I didn't use a recipe just glanced at a few on The Food Network beforehand and then just went with my instincts, which I didn't know I had any for the kitchen!
I was presently surprised that my boyfriend thought my meal was very tasty. A bit garlic-y but I love garlic.

I'd love to share how I made everything for you in a video, but I don't have an adequate camcorder to do so now. Instead for now I am just going to write out the ingredients I used and the process I went through.

Veggie Medley:
-spinach    (I didn't use enough spinach, but use as much as you would prefer)
-2 orange bell peppers     (You can obviously use a different color pepper or a completely different vegetable)
-2 redTomatoes
-2 turns of the pan of olive oil
-2 cloves of garlic minced
Directions:   Gather all ingredients and a midsize pan, no bigger than a dinner plate. Mince the garlic with either a garlic press (much faster! major time saver) or by hand, pieces have to be VERY small. Put the stove on medium-low heat and pour two turns of olive oil along the diameter of the pan and add garlic. Cut the stems off the spinach (optional), dice the tomatoes and peppers. Once the garlic has been in the pan with the olive oil long enough to tenderize a bit, but not until it is brown place the rest of the vegetables in the pan. The spinach will wilt before the rest of the veggies are cooked but won't overcook while the other veggies are finishing.

Carrots:
Peel and cut into uniform slices as many carrots (not baby carrots) as desired. Place carrots into a steamer (my rice cooker doubles as a steamer, many pasta pots do as well) and cook until tender.
Once finished place carrots into a pan with a tablespoon (optional) of butter and tablespoon of honey. These carrots are delicious, but don't get all excited that you're eating veggies because these are rather sugary.

The Chicken:
So I cook chicken on a George Foreman Grill which is honestly the easiest, most hassle free, and tasty way to each chicken! I have never had chicken that was juicier or tastier than on my foreman grill. I am not joking. I like it better than I like chicken from restaurants. I am SUPER picky about my food and especially meat.
I use frozen chicken breasts from either Kings Soopers or Costco depending on if I went to Costco that month or not. For time's sake I would definitely suggest chicken breasts that are in a bag. I know all the ice surrounding the breasts makes you think it isn't good but honestly when you defrost chicken with lots of ice crystals around it makes the chicken juicier after you cook it.
I defrost the chicken in the microwave on the defrost setting for however much I think the chicken ways. I never know for sure so I always check intermittently throughout the process and turn the breast over as they will thaw unevenly.
You have to make sure the chicken is at least 95% defrosted otherwise the outside of the chicken will burn while the inside is still cooking.
Chicken breasts cook perfectly on the Foreman grill for about 5-6 minutes depending on the thickness of the pieces at 350.
I was DEFINITELY NOT handy in the kitchen nor had I ever cooked chicken before in my life until I moved out. All I had done was made pancakes and mac'n cheese! That's how easy the Foreman grill is!!! SOOO EASY. SOOO WORTH IT and SOOOOO nice. It is so hard to burn something on the Foreman grill unless you don't check on you food!

Anywho now that this has turned into Foreman Grill free advertising...

Pasta: I think everyone knows how to cook pasta? I don't do anything special when I cook pasta.

Once everything is cooked put some pasta on a plate then add chicken veggies, and pasta sauce if desired.

YOU'RE DONE! This was such an easy dinner and honestly I do not consider myself especially skilled in the culinary department. Until next time.

Insomnia

It's funny how when I try to do one last productive thing for the night before bed I end up not being able to fall asleep.

I decided to go through my planner and plan out my week with to do lists and appointments and after that I found my mind racing, realizing I had so much stuff to get done this week and hardly any time to do it.

I think I have learned my lesson.
Before I go to sleep I should do something relieving. Something that won't send my mind on a thought rollercoaster.

Now I am quite possibly screwed. If I can't fall asleep I will be almost completely unproductive tomorrow. =[ Also I have an Oral Test in Chinese tomorrow and if I am dead tired I am afraid I won't remember anything.

I suppose all I can really do is stay calm and try to stop thinking about all the stuff I seriously need to get done this week. With mid court, tests, a presentation, a talent show, a meeting with my advisor, my professor's office hours, meetings with various people, and a second midterm coming up soon I am so stressed.

Calm down Arae. Take a deep breath and remove yourself from the situation. I need some stress relief. I may try to squeeze in ice time. That worked for many years as a stress relief maybe it will again.

Can't you see it

Can't you see it in the rain?
The deep sleeping sound of pouring rain.
It beats down on everything it sees.
Everything below feels the patterns.
Not one thing is left untouched--
nothing escapes, everything feels.
Can't you see it in the rain?
Can you see the empty void?
The white noise screen of nothing but streaks?
The winds whistle and the thunders scream.
Nothing can go out with out soaking,
nothing can come in without dripping.
Can you see that there?
The emptiness, the void, the lonely one.
There is nothing.
Nothing that can escape what has encompassed the world.

September Favs (Yes, I know it is October 15th)

Hey there!
So I am finally getting around to writing the detailed post about all my september favorites!! I am so sorry this is soooo late. I have been crazy busy with school and other things, also I am taking care of a sick boyfriend right now, so yeah. I have been in crazy do everything mode and I still need to clean my house. Anywho let's get into it.

Here is the video on youtube.

The first product I mention is Boots No7 Lipstick in Paradise. This lipstick is a moisturizing lipstick and is a beautiful color! It goes on smoothly and doesn't dry out throughout the day. I hardly notice I am wearing it after I have put it on. The color is a pink color, but it is neutral enough that this is my everyday, "go-to" lipstick no matter what the occasion. I don't think it is overpowering or a dull ugly color. When I bought this color (I believe it was about $9.99 at Target) the lady was showing me all these ugly brown colors and I honestly hated them! I don't know what it is about them but they were definitely not me as I am more girly and in love with pink.
Here is a swatch of the color.

As you can see it is a beautiful deep pink color, but not to dark or overpowering.

The next item on my list for September favorites is Lancome Lip Liner in Mauvelle. I had never used lipliner before this and was a little reluctant to add it to my list of free gifts from the lanceom counter at Macy's but I figured if I am going to try it I may as well not pay for it! Anyways I am so glad that I got this because it is such a beautiful shade and matched the Lancome lipstick that I got perfectly. (I can't think of the lipstick shade off the top of my head). So this lipliner goes on so easily you don't have to push it hard into your lips or go over it more than once. It is very precise and a beautiful deep red color, perfect for pairing with red lipsticks or blending all over the lips and adding a nice gloss. For some reason I don't have picture of this but it is in the video and I am pretty sure I swatched it.

The next item I mention is Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Liner is Blackest Black. This is my all time favorite liquid liner! I love this so much. I love the brush it is a felt brush and it is skinnier at the bottom and very accurate. The liner itself is a good formula it dries pretty quick so you don't have to worry about it getting onto your eyelid or anything for very long. It looks beautiful when set with a black eyeshadow and will stay all day that way. My only gripe is I am not sure if there is that much product in it. But I honestly think that all liquid liners don't come with much in them.

Sorry about the picture quality--the glare was awful.

Moving on to the ELF concealer and highlighter in fair. Now I do not right now have a fair skin town but I use the concealer (that is too light for my skin tone) as a concealer and a highlighter because the shade is lighter than my skin tone it adds a nice glow to my face as well as brightening it. I think that this duo is an excellent item to purchase and it is either only $1 or $3 which is an excellent price for a good quality product. I have been using this product for quite a while and always end up going back to it when my skin tone permits (as I don't use it while I am at my tannest).

This is only half of it because the other picture turned out badly. I apologize for the quality of these photos. They will be better in the future.

Now to go on to the Revlon PhotoReady Foundation in 006 Medium Beige. I tried out this foundation because I had heard a bunch of YouTube Beauty Gurus raving about it, but I had also heard quite a few gurus complaining that it seemed like it had a sheen to it. I can honestly say that when I heard this I was like WHAT? Because I have NEVER noticed a sheen to it at all. I thought it was perfectly matte. Now I don't know if this is personal opinion (how subjective can shine be?!) or if different shade of the foundation had different shine or sparkle to them or if maybe lighter shades seemed as if they were sparkly while the darker shades hid the sparkle. I am not sure but nonetheless I love this foundation. It gives excellent coverage while still looking natural and without feeling oily or like amass sitting on top of your face. It is an excellent staying foundation (obviously set it with powder) and has a great pump top for easy application. I prefer to use it with a beauty blender but fingers work great for just quick early morning coverage. Although I do believe the bottle I got has a minor packaging fail. The bottom layer slopes downward. You'll see it in the picture.

Here is the pump top.

The next item is Maybelline Chic Naturals Eyeshadow in 15S Linen. This color I use as a highlight. I love it as a highlight because it is completely matte and a nice shade of off-white. It is really easy to use as it is not a liquid which I enjoy a lot! I haven't used it as an actual eyeshadow color though.

Now onto the eos lip balm in Strawberry (something). I loooooove looove looove love this lip balm! it is so amazing. It smells amazing it feels amazing and it looks adorable. It doesn't make your lips dependent on it (at least for me...although I just get addicted to it) and it feels awesome, not sticky or annoying at all.

The rest of what I talked about is non beauty related.

Gold Peak tea --- Green tea is sooo delicious. It is a sweet green tea so if you're into that I would definitely recommend it. I love almost all green tea but not usually really sweet ones but this one is like a really tasteful, yummy, sweet tea.

Command wall hooks are really helpful and so simple to use! They also come off super easy and can be bought in packs of 5 maybe 10 at Target.

I apologize for how late this is and my lack of updating on here and YouTube but I am hoping to get into more of a routine with this. Until next time.

Oily and dry sensitive skin?

Hey guys,

So I have some of the most sensitive skin in the world, but it isn't typical sensitive skin. My skin is better off with Drugstore foundations than it is with high end ones like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or Clinique Tinted Moisturizer. I can wear Revlon PhotoReady and not break out at all, however I find whenever I wear any liquid foundation my skin becomes dull and slightly reddish. I rarely wear it anymore. I am better off wearing just power and concealer. It sometime sucks if I want more coverage but over time my skin become more even toned and less red, so much so that I don't even have to wear anything but a little concealer under the eyes to lighten my look.

My skin was not always sensitive. When I was younger I had very bad acne and I washed my face twice a day with multiple cleansers. I don't know how my skin didn't go bizerk with all of those cleansers, because nowadays I can't even wash my face with Yes To Cucumbers, a 95% natural cleanser that is supposed to soothe redness. After reading and watching BubzBeauty's oatmeal face wash I started doing that and I was amazed at how great my skin looked and felt after that, but it didn't last. I started to turn red and noticed my skin was looking dry but still oily to the touch. It didn't make sense! Oatmeal is just oatmeal!! Why on earth would it make my skin red? Why would it irritate it?
I realized that I was using to large of oatmeal and scrubbing with it to hard. If you the kind of sensitive skin I do scrubbing is probably the worst thing for it. I stopped using the oatmeal to let my skin calm down and give it a break from being rubbed and my skin is back to better than it was before. I am a bit reluctant to start washing it again for fear it may turn red, but before I do I will definitely purchase instant oatmeal (the smallest oat size) so that it turns to mush easier and will not feel rough on my skin.
I am going to do a tutorial on how to wash your face with oatmeal and how to be extra careful with it. Like I said before I saw it on BubzBeauty's channel I did not just one day decide to wash my face with oatmeal.
Additionally I realized that I am very sensitive to Retinol, the main product found in anti-aging serums and in Retin-A, an acne treatment. If you have been prescribed Epiduo make sure you only put it on your actual pimple! Don't rub it in harshly or in between acne marks, as it can cause redness and irritation. It really works wonders on you acne but not the acne free parts of your skin.
I hope this was helpful. I will add more and edit later. Until next time.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Heeey there.
So, I recently saw The Rise of the Planet of the Apes and I thought James Franco and Frieda Pinto were amazing together! The had such great chemistry. Their relationship was completely believable and their connection in the movie through their love for primates was so meaningful and raw.
This would be my first Movie Review. I hope it is taken with a grain of salt, as my views are not going to be yours nor are they better than anyone else's. Additionally I am not being sponsored to do this and I am sharing my 100% honest view on the movie.
I thought that the apes in the movie were excellently done. It was very seamless and didn't seem CGI to me. Obviously were but it did not look fake, other than it would be pretty damn hard to get apes to do exactly what you say for an elongated period of time.
Additionally, the storyline about Franco's father in the movie (John Lithgow) was very touching and I am sure many people could identify with the struggle. It was an honest depiction of the hurt and pain of Alzheimer disease, much like that of The Notebook. I personally have had no experience with it but I understand the feeling after the death of a parent. (blogpost on that soon to come)
A moment that stuck out to me was when Caesar (the main ape) drew with a stone the exact shape of the window he used to look out on the wall in his little cell at the primate habitat. It was so moving and honest. He missed his home, his family, and the outdoors. All he saw now was the inside of a crappy primate shelter and a tiny cell with nothing but a bunk in it.
All in all I thought it was a fantastic movie. I am not adding it to my list of favorites and may not watch it again, but I don't typically watch serious movies more than once (IDK why but I find it hard to do that).
I hope this does not offend anyone and if it does I do apologize. I did not intend to offend anyone and I never do with the posts I make. Hopefully you all remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you didn't like the movie write about it in a comment telling my why you didn't like it. I will most certainly read it but please don't criticize what I said, rather make your own argument for why you feel the way you do about the movie. Until next time.

My Trip to Ulta

Hello my friends.

So, yesterday I went to Ulta with my mom, and I ended up leaving with only two things (not by choice, I seriously need a job before I spend money, and I am trying to save up for my Euro trip!).
Anywhoooo, Ulta has a sale going on now on a lot of their own product. There are a lot of 2 for ___ deals. I got a lipstick and a nail polish for $6! Which I thought was a great deal because I think the lipstick would have been more than $6 by itself. Anyways I wanted to share how I feel about Ulta, because I recently read a lot of mixed reviews on the place.

I used to absolutely love Ulta--that was until I found out Bed Bath and Beyond (at least some of them) sell drugstore cosmetics at discounted prices!!! Ulta does, however carry NYX which in Colorado (as far as I know) is the only place you can get them. I love NYX jumbo pencils so this is super exciting for me.
I think that the mixed reviews on Ulta come from people misunderstanding what Ulta is. Ulta is not a place to get discounted high-end products or drugstore products. It is simply a less uptight version of Sephora who also has their own line and carries drugstore products and lots and lots of hair essentials. Ulta also sells a nice brand of makeup essentials, such as beauty blenders, power puffs, sponges, and brushes. The beauty blender I bought there was on $5! I know gossmakeupartist talked about how those were starting to be expensive from high end brands when really they are the same thing and you can get one for $5 US dollars at Ulta.  I hope this was helpful! Stay tuned for more. Until next time.

Closet Tour?

So, I recently moved into a condo with my boyfriend for school and we still haven't finished unloading everything. Our living room is a jumble of boxes, bags, drawers, and unassembled shelving units. I was thinking that an excellent video series would be "Organize your house" since my boyfriend and I are doing that right now. It's really realllllly intimidating moving and then having to reorganize everything, but at the same time it is an excellent chance to get organized and figure out what works.

I think that I will post my first video in this series within the week. This one will just be an overview of what we have to get done. The place that is almost completely done is my closet and the bathroom. My closet isn't done because most of my clothing is not clean right now because we no longer have our own wash machines... =[ The kitchen is livable obviously because we have to use it everyday but we are still in the process of getting a pantry to put out in the dining room under the stairs because there is just not enough storage space in the kitchen for all of our stuff. The bathroom is almost done but I think I want to make tweaks to it still, and my makeup will move to a different room once we have a desk in the office and a small table that I can turn into a vanity.

I'm sorry for not updating at all recently! Hopefully I can get back into a routine with things! Also, IT'S TEBOW TIME! Until next time.

FINALLY MY HECTIC WEEK ALMOST OVER

Soooo, I haven't been able to do anything with the blog or the channel this week! I have been so busy with school. I had an essay to write which is due today (thank you God it is done). Also, I had lots of meetings and stuff to go to. I went to a talk to the dean of my business school and the club I am in meeting (I'd tell you but I don't want to give away where I go to school, but I will tell you that only three universities in Colorado have it, so maybe if you are in it as well you know what I am talking about). I haven't been able to get my September Hits & Misses up which I am not so sure I will be able to do this week, but cross my fingers I hope I will! Next week I have as many meetings and such but after this week I will be able to handle it so much better than this week!!
I am desperately going to try to get my September Hits & Misses up and another tutorial but we will see how that will go! I am also going to try to do some halloween tutorials! I also have a hair tutorial in mind and I need to dye my hair again sooo maybe I will do a video on how I do it. Which I do it completely improfessionally and probably completely wrong but it works for me so that's all I care about, also I don't have to pay 100 dollars for it! =] I also have a nail tutorial in mind! AHHH all these tutorials and soooo little time to do them.
OKay so now I am rambling and my computer is about to die, I don't have the charger, and I have one more class to get through. UGH I do not like my next class. It is Intro to Bible and I enjoy the Bible and have found reading it very interesting but the class is far from interesting or pleasant, much to my sadness actually. ANYWHO now that I am rambling again I bid you all a good day and a wonderful weekend! Until next time.

Why Do We Blog???

So, what is the appeal of blogging anyways?

Excellent question. A question my boyfriend asked me the other night. He wondered what my fascination with sharing personal things online is. And honestly it is completely and totally impossible to explain. It’s like the feeling I get when I read someone else’s blog. It’s completely indescribably. It’s like getting a person play-by-play of someone’s day or just getting a quick glimpse into their world. Also you get awesome styling and makeup tips. What more could a girl want? I personally wish I could share style tips with you guys, but I don’t think of my self as very stylish. I am not the most trendy person. I think of myself as the girl who buys stuff she likes that might possibly not be in style at the time at all, but if I like it and it pleases me and looks good on me; who has the right to judge?
Anyways I am getting totally off topic. I started with the question what is so appealing about blogging? I think it makes you feel like people care about your day who don’t even know you. I also feel that if I write about a tough time or an experience someone else could read it and learn something from the way I handled it or how I handled it wrong. It’s advice through experience, which I think is the best kind of advice. It’s not someone with a fancy degree telling you how you should feel, what you should do, and making it all seem like it is perfectly easy to plan out exactly what’s going to happen, which we all know is bull. (I do not mean to demean therapists, I just prefer advice through experience) To me it is much easier to prepare or learn from other people’s mistakes because they have actually gone through it; it makes you feel less strange like you know you’re not the only one going through it.
I also feel like blogging is a great form of self-impression. It’s like being able to share all of your thought with an unlimited number of people without having to standup in front of a huge crowd, which can be very hard if you’re a bit crowd shy like me. Fortunately I am starting to get over that but it still makes my heart race a bit when I am in front of a large group of people talking. >.<
I think that is all for this post. Until next time.
